Madani High School

04th Dec 2008

Munro + Whitten were the landscape architects for the central courtyard of Madani High School and Community Centre. The design of the central courtyard follows traditional Islamic architectural principles as well as mirroring the contemporary architecture of the new college.

The courtyard focuses on a traditional Islamic rill. The water feature runs the length of the garden leading you from the entrance down towards the focal domed Prayer Hall.
An avenue of columnar evergreen trees frame the central rill with the gardens leading out to the building.

The voluntary aided Leicester Islamic Academy is the first purpose built and government funded Islamic Faith Secondary School in the country. Located on the edge of Highfields in Leicester the project was founded by members of the local Muslim community.

The project has been awarded the Sustainable Development of the Year at ProCon 2008, the Leicestershire Property and Construction Awards. It has also recently come first in the ‘Community Benefit’ category at the regional finals of the annual Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors Awards (RICS), East Midlands 2008.
