Leicester Grammar School

12th Jan 2009

A new exciting educational campus has been created for Leicester Grammar School in South Leicestershire. The 75 acre site provides first-rate premises for both senior and junior school pupils and has had minimal impact on the surrounding, local environment.

We were commissioned to place the buildings and sports pitches into the landscape and provide a stimulating and vibrant environment for the school, which can be enjoyed by the staff, pupils and visitors alike.

The landscape has been designed to retain the character of the rural setting and build on the framework of the existing landscape features. New woodland was created as a teaching resource along the edge of the campus.

Our ecologists provided measures to protect badgers, bats and reptiles that where present on the former farm.

The campus and its pitches are drained to new ponds which provide new habitats for amphibians and birds.

A contemporary paving design complements the building’s architecture with a selection of paving styles creating diverse and open areas. Benches and seats furnish the spaces, developing the feel and character of the new school.

The landscape design has been a great success. Teachers and parent groups are now enhancing the landscape with us to create study courtyards, performance and play spaces as well as study programs for pupils to learn in the landscape.
