Braunstone Street Sports

21st Dec 2009

Leicester city opened its newest skate park in Braunstone Park on the 21st December 2009.

We were commissioned by the City to design and coordinate a safe area for sport on the site of the former paddling pool in Braunstone Park.

The paddling pool was a key and memorable feature of Braunstone Park when it opened. Standing disused for the past two decades the paddling pool was in need of a new lease of life and a new identity.

Our designers Lee and Zsofia worked closely with locally based professional skateboarder Andy Simpson to convert the renovated paddling pool into a Streets Sports Arena with ramps, steps & transitions. Street ramps have been positioned to provide a number of narrow flow channels for riders. It has been designed for use by beginners and experienced alike; no one should run out of tricks.

There is a Dynamic Play Area for older children to experience more energetic and challenging play. Exciting new equipment simulate extreme sports such as skydiving, windsurfing, skateboarding and climbing.

Braunstone Street Sports Arena has been a great success, bringing a lively and dynamic new activity to the park encouraging young people into sport and outdoor play.
